The Filipino team brings home SEA’s first ESL One championship by beating Gambit Esports in five games in the Grand Finals. Armel’s 9/0/6 K/D/A ratio in Game 5 propelled TNC to the finish line, ending the game within 30 minutes.
TNC Predator Dominate the Group Stages
TNC Predator started strong in the tournament. Drafted into Group B with Western powerhouses like Wind and Rain, Ninjas in Pyjamas, and Gambit Esports, TNC didn’t have a shortage in formidable opponents. Still, the team emerged victorious in their group, finishing first with a 4-1-0 record, dropping just a single game during the group stages. Their success here is only a spoiler of their victories later on in the tournament.
Striking While the Iron is Hot
TNC used their momentum to race towards the finish line. They didn’t drop the beat as they defeated every single team in the upper bracket. They faced Gambit Esports in the upper bracket finals, which gave TNC more fuel for their Grand Finals bout.
Gambit manages to bounce back and issue a rematch against TNC Predator. Gambit even manages to score two games off of TNC. However, TNC Predator was hungrier for the win. As they traded games with each other in the best-of-five Grand Finals, TNC eventually emerged victorious over the Russian team.
Meanwhile, the team captain March was voted as the MVP Mercedez-Benz MVP for the tournament, earning him a new set of wheels to drive when he gets back home. His captaincy helped materialize the team’s individual potentials, allowing the other members of the team to fight at their best under his lead.
TNC Predator will fight next in the WESG 2019 Southeast Asia Finals, before heading to Chengdu next month for the MDL Major.
